Who is eligible to apply for the grant?

We are flexible because every situation is different. Generally we would expect the following:

  • Age - 16 – 25 years
  • Employment status - You will have found an existing work opportunity for permanent employment.
    A ‘work opportunity’ is an offer of, or someone who wants to make an offer of, or someone who has full time permanent employment, some examples below:
  • ‘I have started working full time at XYZ but ...
  • I have completed a course and have found an employer willing to give me full time permanent employment but; I’m struggling to keep my job because I cannot afford the equipment I need, or get to the job.'
  • 'My living arrangement is stopping me from doing my job and I need to find a better place but can’t afford the bond or to set up my own place.’
  • Attitude - You know getting a job is entirely up to you alone and that you can do it. You really want to work to make a positive difference in your life and the lives of others. 

How much can I receive for the grant?

Generally up to $15,000.
When a grant is approved it will be paid to your employer or support person to help pay for what you need.

What expenses are eligible?

Any expenses that will ensure you have what you need to make your permanent employment a success including getting to work, for example:

  • Transport - Vehicle
  • Equipment - Tools, work clothing
  • Accommodation - Bond, moving costs, furniture, first fortnights rent pending receipt of salary.
  • Fees - Training course costs / certification / registration

How do I apply?

  • Step 1 - Employers, young people, or their support services are encouraged to reach out to us to tell their story and complete an> Application form
  • Step 2 - We do some background checks. If funds are approved, we will notify the applicant and their employer. We will then work with the applicants employer to get the funds to where they are needed.
  • Step 3 - The young person will then receive the supports (i.e a car or tools) to help them in their new job. Once the young person fulfils their commitments (over the next 6 - 12 months) and the employer signs off, they then have full ownership. What happens after I receive the grant?

Grants are unconditional. Some months later we may get in touch with you to see how you are getting on and, it would be great to hear from you or get a note from you about how you are going. We will trust you to put the funds to good use to ensure the success or your employment.

How does the background check work?

We will phone your referrees and ask a few simple questions about your application. If we need more information we will let you know.

I have a criminal record - am I still eligible?

We value honesty. Tell us about it and what has changed and we will decide. We will not provide support when laws are broken and rules are not respected. We will need more information and to know who has been supporting you to ensure it never happens again.

What will do you do with my data/information?

We will keep your application and any information we receive strictly confidential. We will not use your information without your approval for anything other than to decide eligibility for a grant.

What happens if I think Im eligible but I don't have an employer, can I apply?

Still complete an application form. Permanent employment can include self employment. You will need to be working or have work arranged at the end of any study or training you are doing.

Will I be given feedback if I am unsuccessful?

If your application is not approved, we will let you know as quickly as possible and the reason why.
